The Teams

Team Secret

Currently the favorites to win the entire tournament having won the last 3 LAN tournaments they attended. Featuring two former TI winners Puppey and S4 along with Zai, Arteezy and Kuroky.

Evil Geniuses

Currently one of the most successful teams this year having won the massive DAC earlier this year as well as finishing top two in several tournaments, often losing out to their rivals Team Secret. Losing 2 of their best players to Team Secret earlier this year haven’t stopped EG from winning and they are one of the favorites to win TI.

Cloud 9

This team is mostly known for collecting a staggering amount of 2nd place finishes, always struggling against the team they meet in the finals. Despite not having won a major tournament since 2013 this is still a team to keep your eyes on and while they most likely won’t win the tournament they will easily end up in the top 8. Despite never winning any tournaments they are very consistent and almost always finish 2nd or 3-4th.

Virtus Pro

Formerly known as ASUS.Polar this east european squad have been one of the most impressive CIS teams this season. They have won several tournaments and had good placings at the ones they didn’t win. They are however struggling with beating the other top western teams such as EG,Secret and Cloud 9.

Team Empire

This CIS team has had several impressive results this year including beating chinese team Vici Gaming in a BO5 and also beating EG. Lately they have been losing out against their rivals Virtus Pro but this has been in showmatches and smaller tournaments. While Empire always impresses before TI they have a bad habit of going out early at every TI they attend.

Natus Vincere

The most well known dota 2 team by far that also won the very first International. One would except them to have received an invite but after a very disappointing season they had to fight through the European qualifiers. We haven’t seen the new Na’vi that won the qualifiers too much and the only tournament they played in since then was Dreamleague Season 3 where they lost in the finals against Virtus Pro.

Complexity Gaming

Mostly been living in the shadows until recently when they participated in and won the TI5 America Qualifiers. The America qualifier is arguably the easiest and Complexity haven’t played much other than one online tournament where they finished 3-4th.

Vici Gaming

A few months ago this chinese team was by far the strongest but have for the past few months looked weaker. They have struggled with adapting to the latest patches and keeping up with the meta. That said they are still a great team that will almost certainly finish in the top eight. At last years TI they had a big slump but ended up finishing 2nd.

LGD

Having gone through recent roster changes and adding a new captain, Xiao8, who was part of the team that won last years TI, they have started to look very strong. This year alone they have won 5 LAN tournaments and had multiple top 4 finishes.

Invictus Gaming

Featuring the 2 legends BurNIng and Ferrari_430 this chinese team is a fan favorite and on paper looks like one of the strongest. However they have had a weak performance both in Chinese tournaments and abroad. Chances are still high they will get a decent finish, at least top eight.

Newbee

After having won TI4 one would think this team would be one of the strongest this year but they have been on a huge slump since late 2014. They have been performing better recently but are still expected to not reach very far this international.

Ehome

After a poor performance earlier this year this former legendary dota 2 squad had LaNm and rOtK join them and have since then looked decent but is still one of the weaker teams. They won the chinese TI5 qualifier but other than that they hav had lackluster results at the few tournaments they have attended.

Fnatic

Formerly known as Team Malaysia this team was picked up by Fnatic in early June. The team features several veterans of the SEA scene including Mushi. They are a fairly new team and haven’t had many tournaments yet and so far finished 3rd at MLG Season 2 and 5-8th at ESL Frankfurt 2015. Despite being a new team these players have played with each other quite a bit over the years so they could surprise us.

MVP HOT6

One of the best korean teams and also one of the best in SEA after having won the TI5 SEA qualifier. With both the SEA and Korean scene being very weak this unfortunately doesn’t mean much. They recently acquired finnish support player JerAx and while they could upset a few teams it is unlikely they will go far.
